They are indeed the masters of classical crossover, the Klazz Brothers. Founded in 1999, the ensemble generated the idea of “Klazz”, a combination of classical music and jazz that refers to a German play on words of “Klassik” and “Jazz”. Based on this crossover, the Klazz Brothers created their original, brilliantly witty style, having become one of the few world class musicians within this genre.

“Klazz” represents not only classical works rearranged as jazz arrangements, but also the enrichment of jazz with classical elements. Musical curiosity and eagerness to experiment create the inspiration from which the musicians develop their compositions. Thus, typical jazz music may evolve into an extraordinary collaboration of two different worlds inspired by great classical composers like Bach and Mozart, who have been known for their affinity towards freestyle playing. For this reason, it is actually fascinating to discover complex musical structures behind the seemingly easy going and informal jazz interpretations.“Klazz” stands for music beyond all limits, integrating artistic sophistication with popular music.

Today, Klazz Brothers are firmly established within the German and international music scene; they are home not only to smaller, cosy jazz clubs but also to the grand stages and festivals of the world. Up to now, Klazz Brothers have released eight albums with Sony, and occasionally in cooperation with other celebrated musicians. They have been awarded the “Echo Klassik (2003 & 2006) twice, the “Jazz Award” (2003, 2005 & 2007) and were nominated for a Grammy in 2006. The secret to their success can be found in their astonishing musical diversity. The trio has been highly successful not only with their program “Play Classics” but also with their regular performances with other exceptional and renowned musicians like the fabulous vocalist Edson Cordeiro (“Klazz meets the Voice”), Roby Lakatos, Paul Kuhn, Klaus Doldinger and many more. With their remarkable crossover series of classical music, jazz and Cuban music, the cooperation of Klazz Brothers & Cuba Percussion has caused a sensation for many years, resulting into a range of programs such as “Classic meets Cuba”, “Symphonic Salsa” and “Opera meets Cuba”. In addition, various projects with choir and symphony orchestra are an established part of the ensemble’s repertoire. Since the end of 2008, Klazz Brothers present themselves in their familiar jazzy style, however in a new constellation with their new pianist, the artistic genius David Gazarov.
